All in a days work

New name on the boat (temporary )

Mother's Day at Harbortown Marina

We had a delicious Mother's Day dinner last night at the Dockside Grill in Vero Beach - very yummy. Ray worked all day on the outside of the boat yesterday without a shirt on, so now has a bad sunburn on his back. I worked all day inside cleaning and organising. But today the boat is being torn apart AGAIN because the bilge pump keeps pumping at frequent intervals, which means we have a leak somewhere. Knowing that all the veteran boaters in the area congregate at the fuel dock and drink free coffee, Ray went there to get expert advice. Most important was to "taste the bilge water" - yuck - but they said you had to do it to know if it is sea or fresh (fresh water leak being better). So he did it and it is not salty so that is good news. Now he has to empty all 3 water tanks, check hoses, etc.

Yesterday we went to the Ft.Pierce farmer's market, where they had a jazz band playing. When we are not cleaning, fixing, organizing, we spend our time going to stores to get "stuff". It is said that boater's live by the 3 W's-Walmart, Walgreens and West Marine. We also love Home Depot and Best Buy. Oh, also Home Goods, TJMaxx and Publix. Enough, we need to set sail soon!

Hot and humid in Florida

Well, we asked for it I guess. Florida in May is HOT. We arrived yesterday in Orlando, drove to Ft. Pierce in a rented Ford Focus (not a fan),opened up the boat, tried the air conditioning, found out it would not cool things off enough and headed for the dock bar's happy hour to cool off and figure out how in the hello we were going to sleep in that heat. Did I mention no breeze? Luckily there is a pool, so a swim felt great.
"Summer Wind" had fans installed already, but we have not had time, so this morning went to Home Depot and bought a small stand fan plus a 'personal" battery-operated one for me. Then we went to West Marine to buy wind scoops for the hatches - which only work if there is wind! None of our AC outlets would work so Ray and another guy finally fixed that. Every day of getting a boat ready is tearing it apart then putting it back together again.
Most interesting moment today: while driving in town this morning I saw something BIG flying off a rooftop heading right for us - it was a beautiful peacock! I had to break to miss hitting it. Like to know where that came from.

Yes, we have bought another boat ! Crazy, we know. Actually, we found the sister ship to "Summer Wind" in Ft. Lauderdale at a great price and just couldn't resist. So we now own another Beneteau 461, 3 years older than our other one but in some ways in better shape.
The name is "Megerin", a combination of Erin and Megan.
It has been a dizzying series of events. We left Pgh. Jan.5th, drove to California fo a 3 week visit with Erin and family, then toured around seeing the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Las Vegas, Sedona, Phoenix, and many other places. We headed south and spent time in Melbourne Beach, Florida with our friends Bonnie and Lou. By this time it was March and we thought it might be "safe" (snow, ice, etc gone) to return home to try to figure out what to do next with our lives when we got a call from our agent - and the rest is history. Interesting is that we bought the same boat from the same agent in the same city.
We have had some work done in Ft. Pierce, Florida, and will fly there tomorrow to bring her up to the Chesapeake for the summer. We are nervous about this, as it is totally new ground - I mean water! (ground is BAD) - for us. Will keep you updated thru this blog and hope to hear from you too. I haven't been very good about keeping in touch this past year.
